Admire your neighbor's Azaleas? Or wanting a change of color? Or trying to make a little shade? Well, it's a good time to go planting. Especially with most of the plants on sale at this time of year since the colors are quickly fading. We just picked up many gallons of Azaleas, pallates of mulch and soil, and a cute plum tree my wife had to have.
While you're sprucing up your yard, why not install some lighting for both landscape and security benefits. If upgrading security, switch out that single cylinder deadbolt (key on one side, turn knob on the other) with a double cylinder deadbolt (keys on both sides) and put on a wider strike plate. Installing a double cylinder is especially important for doors with windows within arm's reach of locks.
But what about the house? Well, with things gradually warming up over the next couple of months, why not work in the potentially hottest part of the house while it's tolerable - the attic.
I always suggest attic insulation as a must, if you put off doing it last year. What about running a new cable line to that favorite room? This is an easy project you can do that'll cost between $5 and $15 depending how much cable you need to buy. Compare this to the $60-$100 local cable companies charge. I'll write a little how-to in the Electrical section off the By Job link on the home page. You can apply this to virtually all your wiring needs especially if you're going to put that second phone line in your office just for your Dial-up Net access. Also, while you're up there why not nail down some 1/2" plywood sheets to use for storage or if you've already done that, what about getting rid of some of that stuff. I know I need to.
